The North Carolina All-Stars scored a 111-77 victory over the South Carolina All-Stars at the 2009 Carolinas All-Star Classic at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The 111 points tallied by the All-Stars from the Tarheel state sets a record for an individual team, breaking the 106-point barrage by the South Carolina squad in 2006. North Carolina's Ali Ford dished out seven assists, breaking the record of six by Yoneka Allen in 1999. Not to be left out, South Carolina's Ashlen Dewart pulled down 14 rebounds to tie the record set in 2000 by North Carolina's Courtney Willis.
South Carolina scored the first two points of the contest when Courtney Mealing hit a pair of free throws just four seconds into the game. The teams traded baskets and Mealing hit a 3-point basket to cut North Carolina's lead to 8-7 with 18:16 to play. Over the next 5:20, North Carolina tallied 18 unanswered points to open a commanding 26-7 advantage. The N.C. squad went on to build leads as large as 36 points in the second half.
Asia Williams led six North Carolina players in double figure scoring with 19 points. Nikki Burton added 16 points, Jazmine Cooper 15, Lakevia Boykin 14, and Kelsey Evans 10. Evans and Cooper also posted double-doubles by pulling down 12 and 11 rebounds respectively.
South Carolina was paced by Mealing's 21 points, while Morgan Stroman added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Dewart added 17 points to her record -tying 14 boards.
